Cloud Atlas

The other week I was sitting around bored, and really wanted to watch a cutesy romantic movie, and I stumbled upon Cloud Atlas. It is a movie from 2012, about the idea how soul mates will always find each other through out the multiply lives we have. It's a really nice concept and romantic thing to believe in, so I tried it out. I was not ready for the intensity of the movie. 

The movie goes through around six or seven different time periods. It was so hard to keep up with for the first twenty minutes or so, but I really enjoyed all the characters and how all the different situation worked out for each. Also there were some really cool futuristic worlds that brought up more intense themes of slavery and want it means to be human. It's definitely not a feel good movie you can just pop on on a random Tuesday afternoon, but I think its worth the confusion.

The acting is amazing through every cast member, and to be honest, I didn't realize it was the same cast through all the different time periods until I looked it up on imdb. Though it should've been obvious from the premise of the movie.

I would totally recommend the movie to more mature viewers, because it's not meant for a younger romcom crowd, and it takes a while to get your head around before you realize what the hell is going on. Though I think it was really well executed and I wish there were other movies similar to Cloud Atlas.

First reaction to this movie is that it's just trying to replicate the Twilight series, right? That's what everyone thinks now in days when every a new young adult book to movie comes out. I wouldn't say it's anything like Twilight besides the fact that they have vampires and are in high school. Besides that, it's more of an actual high school scenario if there was a vampire high school. It depicts your standard high school cliques and love life issues along with political vampire authority power.

The Mortal Instruments Series

Hi guys I wanted to take a survey today, because I've been having trouble choosing to start reading the Mortal Instruments series or not. I know the movie is coming out soon, and I want to read the novel first, before watching it if I do. I have the Infernal Devices series, which is the prequel to the Mortal Instruments series. I've read the first two books, and my thoughts initially on them were that they were pretty awesome, but now that I think about it, it seems like a very paranormal soap opera. Care to yell at me if you want. Yeah... anyways I know there are die-hard fans of the series, and I know there maybe some neutral people out there, so help please? Thanks.

Review: Of Light and Darkness by Shayne Leighton

I received this novel very unexpectedly because you may know this novel will be a movie, coming out in 2013. For me that's already a warning sign on how good this book will be. Usually novels, that turn into books-which means every movie out there these days- are either incredibly amazing, or down right sad and pathetic of a book, not trying to be harsh, but that's my opinion. So I'm on the later side of things for Of Light and Darkness. I'm someone who can't keep reading a book when they've made up their mind about disliking it. I read up to page 77, and was like "No, nope, no more, I can't handle this." 

I write honest reviews, and I don't get paid to do this either from the recent news about authors paying reviewers. So when I looked up the author of this novel, my thoughts weren't particularly joyous. It maybe a Hollywood actor, who is writing an album, and a ya series, but you have to have flaws in what you do, especially with that much you do. I wouldn't say that her writing was bad per se, but I just didn't enjoy the story. It felt like everything else on the shelves at my local B&N ya section. Some supernatural bimbo falling desperately in love with something that is totally wrong for her.

Characters were a big part of what made me stop. I couldn't keep reading from whoever the red-headed human girl was. She is one of my least favorite characters because of her willingness and self-proclaimed soul mate to her guardian. For me that's incest. I couldn't keep on reading without having my walls up on incest and other things in that area. I just couldn't.

Review: The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

I had to finish this book yesterday night for it to be finished, and ready for school. My previous knowledge of Lord of the Rings series was only from the movies that I have little remembrance of, so The Hobbit was per se new territory. I've thought long and hard about this novel, but I don't know my exact feelings about this book and if I'd recommend it.                              

J.R.R. Tolkien of course is one of the greatest authors ever lived, and I can agree with that, and also get annoyed at his writing at the same time. The world he creates amazes me, and I love how detailed he is, even though some might hate it. I also hated when he'd mention something, and then not speak of it ever again in the novel. It was strange at first reading his writing because it was very grand-father like, if you understand. The dialogue he wrote got on my nerves at times when characters were repeatedly talking to themselves in third-person. Also his lack of excitement or emotion when characters spoke. I've read "said" so many times in the book, and I've been used to more than one word to show someone is speaking. 

Bilbo Baggins, or Mr. Baggins was my favorite character, and perhaps the only character that didn't get on my nerves. I was very intrigued if you can say that about the whole burglar and the Baggins and Took side of himself. I however was dreadfully annoyed by the whining dwarves and Gandalf. I don't like people who keep things from you when they can obviously see that trouble is coming, and even though it isn't dangerous. I don't like when people stand on the side lines and just watch everything play out. It irks me incredibly.

The poems and songs were very cheerful, and dreadful all the same, I loved them. Some people might skip over them, but I love singing them in my head. It was a way of language for the people of Middle Earth. I also admire the scene where Bilbo is stuck in a riddle battle with Gollum.

Laurie Halse Anderson is one of my favorite authors of all time. She's with there with the nerdfighteria co-leader, John Green. Anderson has a way with guiding her readers into key plot points and her writing style is magnificent to say the least. I love the way that she finds to communicate these largely unspoken problems in a comedic and understandable manner. Laurie Halse Anderson's writing style to how she constructs the way the narratar would view a conversation and write it down (or print it out with ink). I loved how she added pop culture to Speak, as it is a contemporary novel, it deserves as much attention as the era it was published.
